Why scrub metadata from Word docs?

DOCX files contain core.xml and app.xml with the author, last modifier, total edit time, revision count, and the Office template path — including network drive paths that can reveal internal company structure. Microsoft's own 'Document Inspector' misses some of these. SafeRestore removes them all in your browser.

Does it remove tracked changes?

We strip revision metadata. To also remove visible tracked changes you should accept/reject them in Word first; we then scrub the underlying revision history.

What about Office templates and macros?

Template paths and macro signatures are removed. The document body, formatting, images, and macros themselves remain untouched.

Does it work on .doc (old format)?

Currently only the modern .docx format is supported — convert old .doc to .docx in Word first, then scrub.

Are my Word docs uploaded?

No. We unzip and rewrite the OOXML package locally in your browser.
