Will scanning damage the drive?

No. Scanning is purely read-only — it walks the file system without writing anything. Spinning hard drives are safe.

How long does it take?

Roughly 1 minute per 100 GB on USB 3.0 SSD, 5–15 minutes per 100 GB on spinning USB drives.

Will it find duplicate photos?

Yes — SHA-256 hashing identifies bit-identical duplicates regardless of filename. Our duplicate finder also flags near-duplicates (resized versions of the same photo).

Does it modify the drive?

No. Read-only by design. Deletion is manual or via FilePilot.
